Doors are Beginning to Close

A few weeks ago I heard from Ma’ale Adumim’s Community Aliyah program director that the government was discontinuing the program through which she has provided invaluable assistance to dozens of new immigrant families (including us). Shelley is a multi-talented professional so I wasn’t concerned about her making a living, but I was saddened to think that new olim would be on their own upon arrival.

I had the pleasure of spending last Shabbat in Ma’ale Adumim and someone told me that an emergency meeting had been called and there was a good chance that Shelley’s job would be saved for another year. But, today I received this message from NBN…

Aliyah Kehilatit (Community Aliyah) Program 2010

We wanted to inform those who have either applied or were thinking of applying to the program that it appears the program is being discontinued.

Although the Ministry of Absorption has not yet made a final decision in the matter, they have indicated that this is the direction they will be taking, and that they are no longer accepting applications…

…Communities involved in the program included: Ariel, Gush Etzion, Haifa, Jerusalem, Maale Adumim, Modiin, and Yad Binyamin.

I’ve told you all before, you need to come ASAP because there will come a day when the gates will be closed (either on your end – or ours). Please don’t wait until it’s too late.
